    The global economic expansion continues to strengthen and broaden across countries (Chart 1a). Growth in the United States rebounded in the second quarter, and the expansion in the euro area appears to have firmed (Chart 1b). Economic activity is also showing signs of improvement in some oil-exporting countries and emerging-market economies (EMEs) that were previously in recession.
